GREAT FUTURES Stories

Natalie and the
Stem Center
Natalie* has an inquisitive spirit, and always participates in as
many of of the Club’s programs as she can. She has goals that
include going to college, working as a veterinarian, and visiting lots of countries. Natalie is most excited about the new STEM Center, made possible by the Gene Haas Foundation, and is eager to try out all the new equipment. She says: “The new space looks really cool! I want to learn how to use the new equipment because it looks fun, and I have some ideas for what I want to make.”
For Natalie and many like her, the Club opens doors to new
interests that help her develop skills, goals, and future plans.

Marcos and the
Junior High Club
The oldest of three boys, 11-year–old Marcos* loves his
siblings, and takes his responsibility as an older brother
seriously. His father is currently deployed, and Marcos helps
his mother get his younger brothers ready for school, prepare
lunches, and assist with other chores around the home.
Marcos likes that at the Club he can be with his friends in the
Junior High Club, just having fun. His brothers get homework
help from Club staff and free snacks. Marcos also gets a snack, and likes to spend time playing games in the Junior High Club or in the gym playing basketball with his friends.
Marcos’s parents appreciate everything the Club does to help
their family—they say finding the Club has been a blessing.

Kendra and the
Teen Center
Kendra* first started attending the Club in first grade. She
has many fond memories of meeting friends, going on field
trips, and playing on the soccer team. She has made lots of
friends over the years, and has built bonds with the staff.
During the pandemic, Kendra was unable to attend the Club
and lost touch with many of her friends. Now in eighth grade,
Kendra is again able to attend the Club and is excited about
the new Teen Center, made possible by Cedric & Lorna Kyles.
She is excited to have a space for kids her age. The new Teen Center, STEM Center, and Junior High Club help create a strong foundation that keeps teens engaged and equips them with the skills they need to succeed.

Ethan and the
Sensory Motor Room
Seven-year-old Ethan* is friendly and sincere. His favorite
thing to do at the Club is to build jets and spaceships with
LEGO bricks. His attention to detail is impressive, and he loves to share information about his jets and show some of the things they can do. Ethan was diagnosed with autism at a young age, and experiences the world differently than his peers. Sometimes, certain areas of the Club are overwhelming for him, so when he feels like he needs a break, he can visit the new Sensory Motor Room—a specially designed space where he and other kids can relax and explore the special furniture and equipment the room offers.
